How to set up and use your georeferencing pilot website
Powrót do Centrum pomocyOpublikowano: 2021年8月9日➡ Custom Pilot Website for Each Institution
Institutions that participate in the georeferencing pilot get their own website (e.g., https://demo.georeferencer.com
), where “demo” is replaced with the institution's chosen name.
This site uses custom branding – including your logo, colors, and fonts – to match your institution’s visual identity.
Institutions are encouraged to create their own landing page for the crowdsourcing project. This can include a short project description, a blog, or other web components known as widgets.
➡ Widgets and Crowdsourcing Results
Widgets are small tools that display live stats and progress from your georeferencing project.
They show how much work has been done and by whom. You can use them:
- Internally (e.g., in staff dashboards)
- Publicly (on your website)
Widgets can be embedded into any webpage using an HTML iFrame.
The same data is also available in JSON format, so your developers can integrate it directly into other systems.

(Replace “demo” with your institution’s domain)
➡ Linking to Georeferencer from Your Website or Catalog
You can easily link individual maps in your digital catalog or repository directly to the Georeferencer service using simple link APIs.

➡ Crowdsourcing Project Results
Once your georeferencing project is complete, you’ll have access to several types of data exports:
- Spreadsheet Export with Geo-Metadata
A downloadable Excel file (.XLS) that includes metadata like MARC 034, bounding boxes, and geographic extents.
This can be used to enrich your library catalog or as a backup. - Download GeoTIFF and Use Map Services
From the “This map” page, you can generate a GeoTIFF file that contains both the scanned map and its georeferencing data.
The page also provides links to OGC WMTS map services that can be used in GIS tools like ArcGIS or QGIS (for logged-in users).
